Background

The company had been founded 6 months before by a group of well known and respected IT industry innovators. The new entity was focused on delivering high quality IT solutions to customers in regional Australia, through acquisition of regional partners and provision of leading edge technologies from global and Australian vendors.

In a previous project, we had used targeted media relations to ensure a high placement rate of press releases in key media. As a result we had:

  • Publication in major metropolitan media (print and online) as well as
  • Publication in specific regional media (print and online), including those where the company was relatively unknown.

Our client now wanted to create product brochures

Challenge

To research and write 6 product brochures, covering our client’s and various vendors’ offerings, in 2 weeks with minimal technical input or supervision.

Solution

Many of our client’s new technology solutions were still being finalised or negotiated, so it wasn’t possible to gain exact technical details, specifications, features and functions. In addition, our client’s senior technical people had a heavy workload and little time for lengthy product briefings. To overcome this we:

  • Researched each of the 6 product areas from scratch, to understand the technology, implications, competitors and the benefits that our client added to the mix
  • Sourced images and examples to clearly define the essence of each offering
  • Created a standard template for our client to ensure uniformity and to reinforce the corporate image over the 6 product areas
  • Wrote 6 detailed technical brochures for our client, with a minimum of technical assistance.

Results

In 3 weeks our client had gained:

  • 6 matching two-page brochures covering Infrastructure Security, Asset Management, Business Critical Servers, Data Storage and SAN,  Server Virtualisation and Standard Operating Environment transition/support
  • An updated product brochure template that could be used for other brochures in future
  • Minimal involvement by/interruption to its key technical and sales personnel.
