Project 1 - Targeted media relations
Background
The company had been founded 6 months before by a group of well known and respected IT industry innovators. The new entity was focused on delivering high quality IT solutions to customers in regional Australia, through acquisition of regional partners and provision of leading edge technologies from global and Australian vendors.
Challenge
To gain frequent publicity in regional and metropolitan press; to ensure the company’s growing success was continually appearing in media read by the target audience.
Solution
Growing rapidly, with many new companies and products being amalgamated, the company’s management team was active, mobile and extremely busy. They didn’t have time for long interviews or briefing sessions. To overcome this we:
- Analysed the company’s offering and extracted the core messages and benefits
- Analysed the company’s competitors and extracted the key points of differentiation
- Researched each Press Release independently, crafting stories with unique angles and points of interest
- Responded rapidly to each opportunity enabling story creation, edits, approval and release to the media in the minimum time to ensure maximum market advantage for our client
- Approached each journalist/editor individually with an angle or modification to the story which was unique to their market
- Followed up each major media opportunity individually to ensure maximum placement rates each time.
Results
With 3 separate press releases we were able to gain:
- Publication in major metropolitan media (print and online) including the Australian Financial Review, ARN, CRN, MIS, CIO, ITN, Voice & Data, The Rust Report and Computer World
- Publication in specific regional media (print and online) as well, including those where the company was relatively unknown, such as the Townsville Bulletin.
